Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Management Fact Sheet view pdf

Life science companies face significant challenges in effectively designing, optimizing and managing product supply and demand throughout the life cycle.

  • Emerging life science companies commercializing new products for the first time must simultaneously build an effective and scaleable commercial supply chain and distribution networks to support launch, manage clinical supply needs, and undergo a complete transformation from a R&D-driven organization to one with business and commercial capabilities.
  • Established and mature life science companies must manage significant, growing complexity in their supply chain as their commercial portfolio expands. Whether vertically integrated or virtual, supply and demand network complexity at fast-growing companies can become overwhelming as the number of products, partners, indications, and regulatory jurisdictions increase. Additionally, the management of inventory, information and cash flow across the supply chain and distribution network often evolves without the benefit of well-designed, effective and efficient business processes or the application of supporting technology.

Maxiom Group helps both emerging and established life science companies build and improve their supply chains. Our experience spans the end-to-end clinical and commercial supply chain and distribution network from suppliers through end customers or patients and includes:

A large manufacturer of pharmaceutical products engaged Maxiom Group to develop a new distribution strategy to accommodate growing complexity in its supply chain resulting from a new, high volume product that was soon to launch and subsequent new products that had unique storage and distribution requirements.

Maxiom Group assisted the client in formulating a new strategy that would scale to support its high volume products while meeting upcoming requirements of future products with improved service levels and reduced costs. We then facilitated the selection of a new third-party logistics (3PL) company who could meet the cost and service level requirements and assisted the client with the transition from the existing 3PL provider to the new firm. As a result of the project, the client is able to accommodate significant new growth and complexity with higher service levels and over $2M in annual cost savings.
